Students’ debate on climate Justice

On 6th June, 2024, students at the Centre for Climate change Adaptation and Mitigation participated in a student’s debate on Climate Justice at Chuka University. The debate was organized by the Pan Africa Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and was aimed at harnessing the collective energy and passion of students to advocate for meaningful climate action. The theme for this debate was “Igniting the Comrades Power and Solidarity in Advancing Voice on Global Climate Action“. Students from six Universities in the region took part in the debate, including: Chuka University (CU); University of Embu (UoEm); Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology (DeKuT); Karatina University (KaRu); Tharaka University (TU); and Meru University of Science and Technology (MuST). After two rounds of debate, students from the Centre emerged the second best after DeKuT. Following this impressive performance, six of the students were offered full scholarships by PACJA to the NSSCJ. All the students who took part in the debate also participated in a 3-hour Town Hall discussion on 21st June, 2024 in the same venue. The main topic for discussion during the meeting was “Tackling Climate Change is Tackling Disasters: climate disasters are preventable but they are always there in Africa. Where did the rain start beating us?
