About Us
The Centre for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCCAM) at the University of Embu is an inter-faculty initiative established to provide a platform for training and interdisciplinary research on opportunities for climate change adaptation and mitigation in the Eastern Africa region. Besides, the Centre is a hub for development and promotion of technologies and innovations that support climate change adaptation amongst communities that are most vulnerable to climate shocks. With such technologies and innovations, the Centre aims to support development of policies, legislations, strategies and plans on climate change adaptation and mitigation through participatory approaches. The main focus of the Centre is to build human capacity that can support communities which are most vulnerable to climate change so as to build resilience and enhance their adaptability. To achieve its aim and maintain this focus, the Centre leverages on four key thematic areas. These are: Training; Research and Innovation; Technology development and transfer; Advocacy and Policy. To help in facilitating a faster transition to a more climate-resilient future, the Centre develops and runs various courses to train young practitioners at the community level, policy regulators and media professionals. These courses are in six major thematic areas: Climate Change; Climate Change Economics and Policies; Community-Based bio-adaptation; Community-Based climate disaster risk assessment and disaster risk reduction; Renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions; and Development and dissemination of Agro-Advisories or Weather-Based Advisories.
